Ted twisted his head around to see a group of six or seven of the attackers within reach of his shop. When Victor finally laid eyes on one close up, he knew Ted had not been exaggerating, these things were walking human corpses. They were dead, but they were walking right towards him. Their pale bodies were horribly disfigured, blood dripped from fresh wounds on some, while others looked like they had endured the final stages of decomposition. They slowly staggered their way towards the door, gaining a bigger following every step they took. Their teeth were yellow and bent, their eyes were deep in their sockets. Their skin was a discoloured yellowish-green, cracking, wrinkled flesh powered the lifeless creatures. A moan bellowed out from within their deepest bowls in a cacophony of hunger. They varied as much as any person did from each other except they all were unusually skinny. Some were nude and their genitals had grossly shrivelled, while others wore everyday common clothing, just dusty, stained in blood or torn.
Dead police officers walked around the diner, their eyes looking upwards in dull awareness. Dried blood stained their neatly pressed uniforms and their mouths remained wide open like one might do after severe brain damage. Their pistols dangled uselessly from their index finger, empty and obviously ineffective. One staggered by that had obviously met with one of Ted's shotgun blasts, as his chest was blasted wide open and burn marks encompassed the wound around the edges. It's shattered ribs and torn lungs could be seen, while half his face had been mutilated by bullets, and fleshy chunks hung from his face exposing the bare skull. To stare into their entranced, hollow eyes was to stare into the face of pure horror. The mere sight of their deformed skeletal faces made them shiver in uncontrollable terror and disgust.
Mrs. Beneth screamed as a fist came crashing through the store window across from them. The growls of the zombie were much louder as it tried to stick its head it the hole. The group scattered in fear. Shelly clung onto Victor as he stood paralysed with dread. Jake jumped back and hid in a corner, while Mrs. Beneth fainted and fell on the ground. Ted rushed over to the penetrated area. Taking aim with a smaller gun he had got from behind the counter, he unloaded the full nine rounds into the zombies arm and face. It pushed him far enough back that Ted could push over the magazine rack to block a big portion of the hole. There wasn't even time for him to enjoy his mini-victory, for the seven who had originally been on there case, began banging on the glass door. Shelly cried a sobering scream as Victor looked at the groaning fleshy carcasses with paralysing fear. His limbs stiffened up and froze at their very sight.
